All soft tissue injuries have an immediate localised swelling to the injured area, this is also known as the 'inflammatory response' a self-healing process activated by the body as soon as the injury occurs and lasting up to three to four days after depending on the extent of the damage and severity of the injury. The injury will progress through the following three phases of healing.
